Occasio turned three on May 5th, 2013. I am a little late in writing this but wanted to share a few pictures of some of the great events we have been able to be a part of in the past three years. We are so thankful to all of our vendors and clients who have made this journey so amazing.
We were excited when asked if we could assist in the planning of Chase’s 8th Grade Graduation and send off to military boarding school! We got the call from his mother Perry Ann Reed whom we had worked with during our time with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. She was the current President Elect for the Junior League of Houston and was in charge of all the volunteers that participated in building a new home for the well-deserving Johnson Family. She was an amazing connection and friend to Occasio.
We decided to go with the Patriotic theme since Chase was hailing to the military. We paired his theme with nothing but his favorite treats! Freebirds World Burrito came in and made awesome custom burritos for all the guest. Hail to the Chief, Honest Abe and Star Spangled Lemonade were the beverages provided for Chase’s Guest that were served in Mason Jar’s and paired with striped and starred blue and red paper straws. The Reed’s adult guest were served beverages in pails that read: Life, Liberty and Happiness or offered a fresh squeezed margarita or garden grown mojito that was topped with a watermelon star-spangled and blueberry skewer.
Our favorite part of the entire of event was the white dance floor that was lit up with red, white, and blue LED lights (provided by DJ Unlimited) and was covered with a custom logo we commissioned from Cat & Glasses. Over the dance floor hung several patriotic lit paper lanterns. Take a look at our fun-filled evening.
We got honored to assist in planning a rehearsal dinner for Frank and Brooke at Eddie V’s. The Braly’s (parents of the groom) were wonderful parents of a past groom Doctor Houston Braly who married the beautiful and brilliant Doctor Kristina Braly. Kristina and Houston, were married at Rainbow Lodge last May. Many of you may know Kristina through her awesome blog Pretty Shiny Sparkly. Frank was a hunter since birth and Brooke is a talented Houston artist so we decided to bring the outdoors in and create a fun rustic outdoor tablescape.
Lori Holley with Special Arrangements did a fabulous job in recreating our vision. Each arrangement was propped on top of a wooden plank. B’s were burnt into the wood for the couples last name and our favorite Textured flowers were used. Star of Bethlehem, Kale, Artichoke, Craspedia, Scabiosa Pods, Hydrangea, Mondial Roses, Eschevaria (succulents), dried lotus pods and dried mushrooms finished off this Hunter’s Reception. It paired perfectly with the cream swiss polk a dot linen and wooden chargers from Elegant Beginnings. What more can we say except……. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Holly Hoyt captured the perfect pictures of the evening.
While working at an event sometime back, we were asked by the photographer if we wanted a photo taken of our team. We of course obliged and were quickly running around to get in place. While we were all (females) figuring out our positions and battling for the side that made us all look oh so good, we were given instructions by the photographer to lean forward. Lean forward?? I thought in my head, why would he ask us to do that? Later, I learned that this was in fact a common tip that photographers use to make a person look leaner! How great is that? After hearing about this little tid bit, guess who has been leaning forward for every picture that I have taken since? 🙂
Since learning about that one piece of advice, I thought that it was important to educate myself on the other tips that great photographers have to offer. Part of what we do in putting on events, is also, capturing the moment. Knowing about these tips and being able to educate our clients on this is very important to us. While speaking with Michelle Able from Michelle Able Photography, she was able to share with us some of her top 10 tips on how to have a successful engagement shoot. With her expert advice, we were quickly well informed and wanted to share with you all what she had to say.

Now to our favorite holiday of the year! CINCO DE MAYO! Sean Beck – Sommelier, Beverage Manager, and “Spirit Guys” for Hugo’s, Backstreet Cafe, Prego and Trevisio is our go to guy when it comes to a fine cocktail. We stopped by Hugo’s (our weekly stop-shh!) and asked Sean to give us his favorite Seasonal Cocktail for anyone having a Fiesta.
As we approach the oh so festive Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo, we want to say Happy Anniversary to Laura and Sati! We (Occasio) cannot believe that it has already been a year since we did their wedding on May 5, 2012 at The St. Regis Houston. Seems like not so long ago we were planning how we were going to incorporate some fun Cinco de Mayo elements throughout the wedding, in honor of the infamous date! We had a blast working with this couple.
We styled this wedding to celebrate the couples love for tradition, celebration and the meeting of four cultures. This black tie affair, began with tequila shots, paired with ballads from Mariachi’s, Turkish and Persian dancing matched with Turkish coffee, hookahs and percussion’s from a Brazilian carnival performance had every guest on their feet.
